Peter Salinger

EA, Former IRS Revenue Officer and IRS Appeals Settlement Officer

Salinger Tax Consultants Peter Salinger had a 33-plus-year career at the IRS, retiring on January 31, 2020. He initially served as a field revenue officer.

He was later promoted to revenue officer and group manager. Eventually, he became a branch chief.

As a mid-level manager, he supervised five first-line managers overseeing 75 revenue officers.

Additionally, he managed an offer-in-compromise group, responsible for assigned offers in the Manhattan district office.

Peter reviewed and made decisions on the acceptance or rejection of recommended offers. As a manager, he also provided feedback on ongoing cases.

Eventually, a second offer-in-compromise group was added to the Manhattan office. As branch chief, Peter oversaw both groups.

He conducted training and outreach sessions for the practitioner community.

In 2001, Peter relocated to the Tampa, Florida, office, becoming the first Appeals Settlement Officer there. He worked on various appeals, including CDP, CAP, TFRP, penalty appeals, and OIC.

Within the office, Peter was the primary reviewer for offers rejected by Compliance.

Peter also managed an offer in compromise group where he was responsible for all of the offer in compromises that were assigned to the Manhattan district office.

He reviewed offers that were recommended for acceptance or rejection. As a first line manager he also reviewed cases in process and provided feedback to his employees. Manhattan eventually added a second offer in compromise group to the office.

In his capacity as a branch chief Peter oversaw both of those groups. Peter also conducted various training sessions as well as outreach sessions for the practitioner community.

In 2001 Peter left Manhattan and Collection. He transferred to the Tampa Florida office and became the first Appeals Settlement Officer there.
